Mission
To promote socially and environmentally responsible economic growth and the public policies that advance it.
Statement of Values
Although PBLN Members value diversity of opinion as a catalyst of innovation, PBLN Members believe:
- Fiscal discipline is a cornerstone of responsible public policy.
- There is a need for greater social, economic and environmental justice.
- Healthy economic growth and greater social justice can and should reinforce each other.
- Healthy economic growth is both robust and environmentally sustainable.
- Governments are indispensable regulators of fair, transparent and sustainable markets.
- Private sector leaders have a unique ability and, therefore, responsibility to contribute to public policies that promote healthy economic growth, effective government and greater social justice.
- Public and private sector leaders should partner to develop policies which encourage commercial ventures that have clear social and environmental benefits (such as affordable health care, affordable housing and “green” technologies).
More about what PBLN stands for and what we do?
- PBLN engages, educates and empowers CEOs and top officers of for-profit companies to drive the invention of a more sustainable, competitive economy through approach to their products, business practices and matters of public policy.
- PBLN leaders strengthen their own business leadership and partner with public sector policy-makers to solve challenging problems.
- PBLN invests in innovative CEOs and top officers because their views and priorities are often under-represented by the goals of traditional business organizations.
- PBLN is deliberately a cross-sector organization and not representative of the interests of a single industry or constituency.
- PBLN focuses on innovation that can drive invention of a more sustainable, competitive economy where there is no distinction between what is good for business and what is good for society.
- PBLN believes that short sighted and outdated business and policy choices continue to damage our economy and communities; and that if “business as usual” continues, the good jobs, health, and opportunity that define the American ideal are unnecessarily at risk.
- To PBLN “progressive” means problems have solutions and that government, business and the social sector are necessary and capable parts of any strategy for improving quality of life. For PBLN, progressive does not mean left vs. right but the future vs. the past; it means supporting good ideas that run ahead of conventional wisdom and address critical problems.
Activities
PBLN offers a 12-month calendar of educational events and activities that bring top business and policy leaders together around critical and relevant topics. Our four working groups provide focus in key areas including Energy/Environment, Healthcare/Life Sciences, Economic Development/Housing and Education. The Working Groups are active and deliberative forums where the PBLN agenda is generated and turned into educational and action-oriented programs and activities. Their meetings and events are a great point of engagement for participants.
Two annual signature Summits (one in Massachusetts and one in Washington DC) are annual highlights and attract hundreds of business and policy leaders.
Regularly, PBLN members are presented with opportunities to have their voices heard publicly on specific issues whether as part of a PBLN advocacy effort or as individual leaders sharing individual points of view.
